On the way to the Hideout this afternoon, riding along Highway 79 South, I killed a bird. The damn thing hit me head on.

It actually came in between the headlight and the left passing lamp. It got wedged in, and was cut open at the neck.

At first I thought it just bounced off the bike. I kept riding on, but then I started to feel droplets hitting my face. Realizing it was bird blood, I pulled over, and yanked the bird out of there. It was a dove.

There was bird blood all over the upper part of my left fork. The wind caught the blood escaping out of the bird, and splattered it all over the front of my gas tank. That's how it managed to splatter all over my face.

I was only a 1/10th of a mile from the glider port, and rode over there to wash up. Looking in the restroom mirror, I had bird blood all over my face, even up near my nostrils. I figure I probably inhaled some of it.

Now, I can't helping thinking about getting some kind of bird disease. I don't think the Asian Bird Flu has reached the Western USA yet. However, the West Nile Virus is all over California, and birds are a carrier of that pathogen.

I feel just fine right now, but who knows! I sure don't.
