Red Light Bill

by Steve
Wednesday, February 21, 2007

There have been attempts in various states to address the problem of motorcycles not being able to trip the traffic light sensors at intersections, causing unncessary waits.

Here's a website that deals with the issue in California, but also goes on to list what other states have done.

Check it out:

  • To add to the list of RED LIGHT Accedents. On May 20, 2001 while sitting at a red light on my bike, wife on the back, I was hit by a car. Lucky I heard the brakes and let go of mine. My wife was thrown back over the backrest on to the car, she slid off and landed in the street. Her helmet saved her life! I was thrown forward with the bike, a 1500 Vulcan, and fell in the middle of the intersection. The people that stopped were very helpful. The Driver actually said "I was going to run the red light." If I had not been there to stop him he would have plowed into the 4th car coming through from the right. My wife and I had minimal injury, but the bike was totaled, drive shaft driven through the transmission.

  • He was planning to run the red light and was stupid enough to admit that? He didn't see your bike with two people sitting on it with a brake light displayed? I hope they threw the book at that idiot and took his license away to protect the rest of the decent, law-abiding citizenry.
