Nigeria Bans Women Riders

Motorcycle NigeriaI suppose as with any other nation in the midst of coverting to Islam, there are growing pains.

Such as Nigeria, dealing with the problem of women riding motorcycles...

According to this article, the rationale is that there is a risk of women falling off of a motorcycle and getting injured, particularly pregnant women. So, they just made it illegal for chicks to ride.

But in reading other articles, it appears the rationale is more about "moral decay". There's a concern that women riding on the back of a motorcycle taxi is almost akin to adultery, because she's riding too physically close to someone whom she is unrelated to...

  • Umm for the record only the northern part of Nigeria is Muslim the southern part is predominantly Christian (minus the small percent still practicing the traditional religions).

    It is likely this law was only passed in the North with lots of significant opposition.
