The Washington State Patrol reports that the number of motorcycle deaths have dropped significantly this summer compared to last summer.

According to the Seattle Post Intelligencer...
As of August 31, there were 43 deaths resulting from collisions involving motorcyclists. For the same time period in 2006, there were 61 deaths.
The State Patrol claims the drop in deaths is the result of their crackdown on speeders and drunk riders. Last March, motorcycle deaths increased sharply, so they decided to launch a crackdown by going after reckless motorcycle riders.

Not mentioned by the Patrol or the Post Intelligencer is that the State already has a mandatory helmet law, and that it didn't appear to do anything to stop the reckless riding.
