Rogers, Arkansas Wants Rally Badly

The Benton County Daily Record reports that Star Touring & Riding, the official riding group sanctioned by Yamaha's Star Motorcycle line, was paid $15,000 to hold their 2008 rally in Rogers, Arkansas.

The town is so desperate to become a tourist mecca for bikers that it's willing to give out incentive money.

$7,500 came from the local Convention and Visitors Bureau, while another $7,500 was paid by Bentonville Advertising and Promotion Commission.

According to the newspaper, Star Touring expects to bring about 1,600 riders with them, and this is translating into big dollars...

The group is expected to attract 1,600 Yamaha riders to town. Using the bureau's $200-per-day multiplier, spending from attendees could generate a $ 1.6 million economic impact, executive director Tom Galyon said.

  • It's pretty sad to see the attendance declining for the event.

While the US is a big ol' country, and some folks might question why there isn't much diversity in the location of STAR Days (this will make three STAR Days in a 4-year period within a 600-mile radius of Chattanooga), you can't blame STAR from chasing the bucks. After all, it's a for-profit corporation.

  • Ha Ol'Dirtbeard I have to agree with you that this event looks like it is getting smaller each year instaed of getting bigger. We all know the rerason behind that don't we.

  • Bring it.Some of the best rides I've been on have started in Rogers. There beautiful rides in any direction,no matter what kind of rider you are. Good food, nice folks, and clear lakes. I don't care who makes the money as long as I have a good ride, after all don't we all have to make a living?

  • Who cares who is making money off this event as long as there is some good riding. Some of the best rides I've been on started in Rogers. Every direction offers a different type of ride for royal star to warrior riders, it' all good. Everyone should just show up and enjoy the rides. Forget about who is getting paid.
