BMW Touring Bikes Reviewed

When you read a review of a motorcycle, one thing to consider as a reader, is who is doing the review.
In this case, Dale Franks, whose blog is one of the ones I follow, rides a 1200 Sportster, and decided to see what all the BMW hub-bub was all about. He sat on a R1200 RT, the K1200 GT, and the K1200 LT. In short, he doesn't like them.
You can read the whole review here...

But I think the paragraph that captures the essence of Dale's review is the following...
No forward controls. No floorboards, and even if you could get them, your legs would be spread so wide you probably coudn't touch the ground anyway.
It's kinda like how a cowboy from Texas takes a look at a Mercedes, and says "nice car, but there's no room for my gun rack."
It goes to show that Harleys and BMWs are designed using two totally different trains of thought. Both excel at their core competencies, but both can't really be compared.

There's a "worldwide" club for owners of vintage aircooled BMW motorcycles called, "Airheads Beemer Club".
It was founded by the same guy who owns that John Deere BMW motorcycle, and he's the editor of their newsletter, "Airmail". The Airheads have about 3,100 members worldwide and offer an extensive technical section in each of issue of Airmail.
Visit Airheads Beemer Club online at:

John Deere BMW Motorcycle

Here's a photo of a BMW R100R painted up in John Deere green and yellow.

This bike is owned by "B. Jan" of San Diego.
He sent the photo to me after Googling for "John Deere Motorcycle". He ended up finding me because a while back I posted a photo of a John Deere lawn mower customized to look like chopper, on another blog I write.
So he sent me a photo of his bike to show me what a "real" John Deere motorcycle looks like.
The funny thing is that I actually saw his motorcycle in person only a few days ago. Me and a group of guys was riding along Mesa Grande Rd in San Diego County, and he happened to zip right past us. Later on, we ended up at The Hideout, and his bike happened to be there also, and spent about 10 minutes checking out the John Deere themed details.
Then out of pure coincidence, he e-mails me.
