Useless Air Temp Gauge on the Harley Electra Glide

by Steve
Thursday, March 08, 2007

Harley Davidson Air Temperature GaugeTo all of you Harley Electra Glide owners out there, just how worthless is that Air Temp Gauge in the dashboard?

Seems like it's always about 20 degrees above the actual air temperature. I believe the sensor is inside the fairing, which explains why it's inaccurate. And why would a rider need to know exactly how hot or cold the air is? Your comfort level will tell you that.

I'd like to get a list going on what kind of gauge Harley Davidson should replace it with. Here's some of ideas to get started...

  1. An oil temp gauge

  2. A compass

  3. A radar detector

  4. A gear indicator - (1st gear, 2nd gear, etc.)

  5. A decibel meter - to see how loud your pipes are

  6. A bubble level - so when you're drunk you'll know if you're bike is laying down

  7. An inclinometer - to see how high up off the ground your wheelie is

I Hate Harley's Stock Mirrors

by Steve
Thursday, April 06, 2006

I hate the stock mirrors on the Harley!

The stems on the mirrors are so damn short, they don't extend far enough past your arms and shoulders, that you can't see the road behind you. You have to move your head over to the side to see anything.

I know Harley sells mirrors with extended stems, and yes, I'm going to buy them. But man, what a con job! You'd think that Harley would put safety at the top of their priority, and give you mirrors that you can actually use.

I never realized how much I liked the mirrors on my Yamaha Road Star, until I started riding the Ultra.

I realize that you can't really compare the Road Star with the Ultra. One is for riding, while the other is for touring. One is for enjoying the road, while the other is for enjoying the long haul.

Still, what's the point of having mirrors if you can't see out of them?
