Jay Leno 9-11 Memorial Bike to be Sold

by Steve
Friday, May 02, 2008

I received this letter today from Keith Thomas regarding Jay Leno's 9-11 Memorial Bike...

Frank Davis purchased this motorcycle on eBay in 2001 to show his support for the victims of the 9-11 terror attack. Mr. Davis died in 2003, at the age of 39, while trying to save another man's life. Frank was deeply in debt at the time of his death. He had a large life insurance policy that was sufficient to cover his indebtedness and to provide support for his two daughters. Unfortunately, Frank selected an inappropriate benefactor who took the money and left the day after his funeral providing no support for his two daughters.

Frank's daughters have fought off bankruptcy, repossession and foreclosure since his death. Now the girls know that they must sell their dad's most prized possession, the Jay Leno 9-11 Memorial Harley.

The auction will be on eBay, and will start on May 7, 2008

It's a Harley-Davidson Dyna Low Rider, with the signatures of several of Leno's celebrity friends. It had actually raised $360,000 to benefit those victims of 9-11. I guess it's easy to see how Frank got into debt.

I called Keith Thomas today just to verify the story, and he describes himself as a family friend trying to help out the daughters. He was on his way to transport the bike to its last public showing in New Mexico.

If you'd like to inquire about the motorcycle, or help out the daughters, you can contact Crystal Davis at (575) 219-7586 for more information, or e-mail her at: frank_davis_estate@yahoo.com.

Update May 12: The Jay Leno 9-11 Memorial Harley is not yet on eBay for auction. I received a call today from the family, and they're planning to have it online soon. We'll keep you updated.

S&S Cycle and ExxonMobil Develop Motorcycle for Jay Leno

by Steve
Monday, November 26, 2007

Earlier this month representatives from S&S Cycle and ExxonMobile unveiled a new performance cruiser they built for Jay Leno at his famed Southern California garage.

The new motorcycle meets 2008 California Tier II emission standards, and is designed to raise awareness of S&S Cycle's new X-Wedge engine as a solution towards tightening emissions regulations on motorcycles.

ExxonMobile got into the project because their flagship motorcycle oil, "Mobil 1" is now used as the initial fill for each completed X-Wedge engine.

The special edition paint job, created by Dougz Custom Paint, features Mobil 1 and highlights the S&S 50th Anniversary, which will be celebrated at an event in La Crosse, Wisconsin, in June 2008. Leno's bike will also be displayed at the 2008 Sturgis Rally and a select number of events throughout the year.

Jay Leno was quoted as saying...

For me this is the only air cooled motor that feels as tight and quiet as one that is liquid cooled, and that’s saying a lot. It’s got everything a guy could ask for, especially in an era when motorcycle manufacturers are getting away from air cooled engines. This bike has performance, power and a comfortable ride, which is especially important at my age.
The motorcycle itself weighs less than 550 pounds, has a wheelbase around 60 inches, rake of 28 degrees, and trail of 5.2 inches. The chassis is TIG welded, 1020 DOM steel tubular frame with a modular rear subframe. The build also includes 17" Michelin Pilot tires, Brembo radial binders, and Ohlins front and rear suspension.
