So, if you weren't able to make it to the world's biggest RUB rally last year, you can at least buy your Love Ride pin online and make people think that you did.

Love Ride 23 Is Now Open

Thursday, July 06, 2006

Love RideOrganizers of Love Ride 23 announced today that online registration is now open.

The Love Ride is scheduled for November 12, 2006. It starts at the Harley-Davidson dealer in Glendale, CA, and ends at Castaic Lake.

Proceeds benefit a laundry list of good causes.

If you're not familiar with the Love Ride, it's the largest one-day motorcycle event in the world. It's the ride where Hollywood's Harley-riding celebrities dust off their bikes and recharge their free spirits with 30,000 other folks.

I did this ride a couple years ago. It's quite a spectacle, seeing all the clubs, all the out-of-staters, and all the RUBs. There are people keeping their cameras ready for a celebrity sighting, and lots of people dressed up wanting to be seen.

The actual ride, however, is not totally organized. It's only organized up until you get on the freeway, and then it's a mad scramble up the I-5. Imagine 20,000 bikes pouring on to the freeway, racing past cars and trucks, splitting lanes, just to beat the motorcycle gridlock at the lake!

If you haven't gone before, I think it's great to experience this at least once. It does benefit a lot of good causes. But be careful when you're on the freeway.
