Orange County Traffic Fines Increase
by Steve

The Board of Supervisors in Orange County, CA voted 4-1 to add a healthcare fee to all traffic tickets written by Sheriff's deputies.
This means if you get busted for speeding, running a red light, having noisy pipes, or looking too imitidating, you'll have to pay extra so that county-funded hospitals and clinics can service the ever-growing public dole.
Steven Greenhut, who writes the Orange Punch Blog, sums up the sorry state of affairs pretty well...
This is a tax increase, and it's wrong to make government more dependent on tickets. That only increases the tendency of police and police agencies to behave primarily as revenuers. In LA cops play games to see who can arrest the most people and write the most tickets and in OC, deputies will be encouraged to hand out more tickets in order to increase funding for government services.
It's gonna get worse folks.
Liberals in California are pushing Schwarzenegger to sign into a law new public health insurance program, which Arnold has already agreed to sign. Hillary, Obama, and Edwards want a federal socialized medicine program.
I guess they'll have to hire more cops to pay for it all.

Denver Police Admits to Ticket Quotas
by Steve
Friday, May 04, 2007
CBS4Denver reports that the Denver Police Department admits to placing a minimum quota of writing 16 traffic citations within an 8 hour shift, or else officers must explain themselves...Captain Eric Rubin, commander of 79 officers in the Traffic Operations Bureau, contends it's "not a quota," but he calls it a "measure of performance" for officers whose primary duty is to enforce traffic laws. "It's a goal we are striving for," he said.
Measures of performance are in place everywhere at every job. But you can't help but wonder if there is another way to measure performance of traffic patrol officers. Officers should write tickets when they see drivers threatening the safety of others, not necessarily for going 5-10 mph above the speed limit, and not just to keep their resumé looking good.

Group of Bikers Get Hit With 500 Traffic Tickets
by Steve
Monday, June 27, 2005
A report published on Independent Online says that a group of Hells Angels bikers were hit with over 500 traffic tickets in Czechoslovakia, after leaving a Hells Angels gathering.
They were apparently being watched by police, and targeted. The report went on to suggest that police actually pre-meditated this move in an attempt to discourage bikers from convening in their town.
Europe is quickly gaining a reputation for being highly anti-biker.
