Hit by a Bat

Me and Stumpy, Harbor Fish Cafe, CarlsbadHere's my motorcycle weekend for August 25-26, 2007.

Saturday, August 25, 2007

For the most part, stayed at home, and worked on my websites, but went riding at night.

Lisa's finally feeling better now that she's back on her thyroid medicine. So far, her cancer study is negative, but she needs to take another one tomorrow.

But she felt good enough to get on the back of our Harley, and we rode to Hemet for dinner (she wanted Polly's Pies).

On the way back, we were riding through Menifee, along Menifee Rd, and I felt something hit my knee (a thump). I looked down at my lap, and I saw a bat sitting there. I knew it was a bat cause I could see its wings and pointed ears. I brushed it off my lap, and kept riding.

I told Lisa about it and she just burst out laughing.

We took a ride to Carlsbad to get some lunch at the Harbor Fish Cafe.

There were five of us, my wife and I, Stumpy, Greyhound, and Greyhound's buddy Larry. It rained a little on the way down to Escondido along Old Hwy 395. At a stop sign, I looked over to Stumpy and pointed out the dark grey clouds looming ahead. He said, "it'll blow out, let's keep going".

So we kept going. We rode through Harmony Grove and Elfin Forest, and the rain just poured down (like a dog pissing on a flat rock in Stumpy's words). We found lots of mud covering the road through Harmony Grove, and rode really slow through it. We got into La Costa, and the rain stopped. Temperature here was actually quite warm.

We got to Carlsbad, along Pacific Coast Highway, and had lunch at Harbor Fish Cafe. Channel 10 News out of San Diego was there, interviewing people about that freak rain storm. Stumpy and my wife were interviewed. Stumpy's interview actually made it on television, and they showed some brief footage of me and Lisa on our Harley. Check it out...

Rode north up the I-5, and headed inland along Ortega Highway, and stopped at Hells Kitchen. Went home from there.

How was your riding last weekend?

Motorcycle Weekend, August 18-19, 2007

I didn't do any riding yesterday, but I did some riding today.

There was 10 of us, riding up to Big Bear Lake (Southern California), which rests on top of Big Bear Mountain, a great place to go when temperatures reach 100+ in the valleys.

We had some people from the Temecula Motorcycle Riders group and from Bikers Ballroom. We left Yellow Basket, a burger joint in Menifee around 10:30am.

Our destination was B's Backyard BBQ, an outdoor BBQ joint situated right on the beach at Big Bear Lake. Not only do you get the cool mountain air, but you also get cool breezes coming off the lake. Plus you get some GREAT pulled pork sandwiches!

We let the mountain air circulate out as much Inland Empire filth from our lungs as we could get, and then we headed for home, by taking Hwy 138 out to I-15. And then headed south, until we stopped at Tom's Farms for an hour to rest.

Here are some photos...

All in all, about 200 miles ridden, had great company, and had two new riders joining us. Hope they stay around.

So tell me how was your "motorcycle weekend"? Post a comment and share it here; I'm gonna try posting these weekend wrapups regularly to see how many people are willing to share their weekend of riding fun.
