Bugs Happen

bugs on helmetBob over at Metric Thunder wrote about why he now always rides with a sheild. Bugs. Apparently, he had to swallow one.

Personally, I like riding without a shield. I do get hit with bugs, sand, and other debris. But then again, that's riding. I'm not saying that you're a wuss if you ride with a shield. I mean, I also ride a geezer glide for those times when I have that not-so-fresh feeling. Rather, it's simply a fact that riding is dirty.

Yeah, I would hate to have to swallow a six-legged yellow-juiced bug-bomb. But, you do what you like and take the knocks with it.

Just last Saturday I had a big one hit me on the chin, spilling its yellow guts into my goatee, on my forearm, and all over my denim vest. The vest is now in the dry cleaners.

But a shield won't help you all the time.

Like that time when I hit the bird, and it blew blood all over my face. Photo of bird blood on my bike, here and here.

So, to shield or not to shield, it's going to get gross either way. You may as well just look cool.
