Jay Leno 9-11 Memorial Bike to be Sold
by Steve
Friday, May 02, 2008
I received this letter today from Keith Thomas regarding Jay Leno's 9-11 Memorial Bike...
Frank Davis purchased this motorcycle on eBay in 2001 to show his support for the victims of the 9-11 terror attack. Mr. Davis died in 2003, at the age of 39, while trying to save another man's life. Frank was deeply in debt at the time of his death. He had a large life insurance policy that was sufficient to cover his indebtedness and to provide support for his two daughters. Unfortunately, Frank selected an inappropriate benefactor who took the money and left the day after his funeral providing no support for his two daughters.
Frank's daughters have fought off bankruptcy, repossession and foreclosure since his death. Now the girls know that they must sell their dad's most prized possession, the Jay Leno 9-11 Memorial Harley.

The auction will be on eBay, and will start on May 7, 2008
It's a Harley-Davidson Dyna Low Rider, with the signatures of several of Leno's celebrity friends. It had actually raised $360,000 to benefit those victims of 9-11. I guess it's easy to see how Frank got into debt.
I called Keith Thomas today just to verify the story, and he describes himself as a family friend trying to help out the daughters. He was on his way to transport the bike to its last public showing in New Mexico.
If you'd like to inquire about the motorcycle, or help out the daughters, you can contact Crystal Davis at (575) 219-7586 for more information, or e-mail her at: frank_davis_estate@yahoo.com.
Update May 12: The Jay Leno 9-11 Memorial Harley is not yet on eBay for auction. I received a call today from the family, and they're planning to have it online soon. We'll keep you updated.

Kerensa Davenport Ordered off of eBay
by Steve
Friday, December 28, 2007
If you bought Harley-Davidson accessories from eBay, you may have purchased stolen goods.
Yesterday in Wisconsin, Kerensa D. Davenport was ordered by a Barron County Court Judge to stay away from eBay, after she was convicted of shoplifting items from the Rice Lake Harley-Davidson dealership, and selling them on eBay.
According to The Chronotype newspaper...
A Barron woman has been ordered to stay off eBay as a condition of a $5,000 cash bail set in a fourth criminal case recently filed against her.
That's because Kerensa D. Davenport, 35 was allegedly caught by Barron County Sheriff's Department detectives trying to sell items she stole from the Rice Lake Harley Davidson store on the popular Web site.
I think there are an awful lot of stolen goods showing up on eBay, and something which eBay needs to address. eBay is a great place to sell stuff, but they must take more responsibility in fighting hot goods. Otherwise, people will feel encouraged to steal more stuff.
Harley hardbags (hard saddlebags) are a popular theft item, because they're so easy to steal, and can retail bewteen $500.00 to $1,000 for a matching pair. Keep your hardbags locked.

Can't Believe the Harley Junk on eBay!
by Steve
Friday, April 06, 2007
Believe it or not, someone is actually selling Electra Glide fairing mirrors on eBay, WITHOUT THE MIRRORS!

Click here to see the eBay listing.
These are just the mirror housings, and they're scuffed up. Looks like they got scratched up after a crash.
Someone has actually placed a bid on it for $9.95! On top of that, there is a shipping cost of $10.00!
If stuff like this can sell on eBay, then go ahead and put all your garage junk on eBay, and make your profit on the shipping.

Terapeak Publishes Harley-Davidson eBay Statistics
by Steve
Tuesday, November 07, 2006
A company called Terapeak, who describes themselves as an "eBay Certified Solution Provider", published some statistics on Harley-Davidson parts and accessories sold on eBay...Harley-Davidson enthusiasts, considered to be traditionalist in the motorcycle world, have proven that they are not afraid to shed traditional sales channels, in favor of doing business online. In the past year, sales for Harley-Davidson merchandise on eBay have topped $30,000,000 for parts and accessories alone, according to research by Terapeak.
Over the past century Harley-Davidson has established itself as the most well-known motorcycle brand on the planet, with one of the most loyal customer bases of any brand. Their customers are strongly rooted in tradition as evident from statements in their motto, "We believe that cowboys had it right, we believe in rumbling engines and fuel tanks designed in 1936..." While Harley enthusiasts may believe that fuel tanks from the thirties are ideal for their bikes, they opt for much newer technology when it comes to buying and selling their merchandise. Over the past year there have been over 2 million bids on Harley-Davidson parts and accessories on eBay.
Harley-Davidson has also consistently been the top ranked search term on eBay's Pulse, which lists the top 10 search terms for every category on eBay. Additional research using Terapeak's eBay Motors Parts and Accessories Research Tool shows that February had the most sales for Harley-Davidson parts and accessories with over $2.9 million in total sales. Successful listings were also at a yearly high in February with 54% of listings ending in a sale. With sales numbers like these it is clear that Harley-Davidson loyalists will not slow down, especially when it comes to buying and selling on eBay.

Buying a Motorcycle on eBay Can Be Risky
by Steve
Monday, February 07, 2005
If you're planning to buy a motorcycle through eBay, you might want to know that Al Whidden tried to do the same, and is still waiting for his motorcycle. Whidden paid $4,500 to a guy in Milan, Italy via money order, for a Honda Goldwing, and never received the bike. Moreover, he even paid a company called SquareTrade, who provides buyer protection to eBay users. Now he's suing both eBay and SquareTrade.
