Last March I wrote about my friend getting bad service on his Honda Valkyrie. Well it just got worse!
Last Friday the bearings on his rear wheel failed and became shot. He discovered the nut holding down the rear wheel was over-torqued. The last person to touch this nut was a mechanic at West Coast Motorsports in Perris, CA.
If you recall, they took six hours to put on a new rear tire, a job that normally takes two hours. They charged him for six.
He also mentioned they stole his tool bag. He said it was missing after they worked on his bike. This is in addition to them replacing his chrome valve stem caps with plain plastic ones.
So now his bike is in his garage, torn apart, waiting for new bearings. Of course, he can't ride.
What's worse is that West Coast Motorsports keeps giving him the runaround, refusing to address the matter. He's absolutely livid, and he's posting messages on every motorcycle forum focused on Southern California. He's filing a complaint with the State of California.
What's the moral of the story?
1. Keep all receipts and paperwork in case you have to file a complaint or case.
2. Remove the custom valve stem caps before taking your bike in.
3. Remove all stuff from your bags before taking your bike in.
With a place like West Coast Motorsports, you can't take any chances.

guess your buddy should of got a Harley-Davidson instead, real bikers don't steal from other bikers
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't have expected anything else from West Coast.
ReplyDeletereally? my boyfriend is gonna go over there tomorrow to purchase a bike? bad idea?
ReplyDeleteTo the above commenter, keep in mind that a lot of bikes don't come fully assembled. That is, the dealer does the final assembly, which means of course, their service center.
ReplyDeleteWould love to hear more. I'm currently suing them for not only poor repair but also failure to live up a promised warranty/service contract.
ReplyDeleteI have a Honda I just bought from them and after only 115 miles the bolt that holds the shifter in place fell off while on the fwy in the fast lane. The bike has been in the shop for over 7 days to replace that missing bolt and adjust the clutch. Starting to wish I went somewhere else.
ReplyDeleteI am suprised, we have had great service from them, on my third bike and never a problem
ReplyDeleteGR
I am the owner of West Coast Motorsports and just became aware of this web site and the complaint. We stand behind our work 100%. We service probably 200-400 bikes per month with little or no problems. We have a 5 Star Rating and were selected as one of the "TOP 100 Dealers in the US".
ReplyDeleteI am amazed the poor information of these false claims. In the complaint about the Valkyrie, why is it the friend as to complain,
(get a life). Please also note how he complaints about other dealers. If we had quoted wrong it would certainly be an honest mistake. As he said "His Friend" was quoted
$150 - 2 hours labor, then was called back with a new quote of $250 for 6 hours. DO THE MATH. We charge $75 per hour so that means we wrote off $150 for making a simple error. Doesnt' seem like something a horrible crook would do! Secondly we are acused of stealing a tool kit, the same type that we have a least a 50 in a box in our service department, which we would have gladly given him a free one. The valve stem caps being lost once again would have been an oversite.(as he said he had to come back to get them, so obviously they weren't
stolen. Please keep in mind we gave him a $150 CREDIT! Common sense would tell you to remove any valuables from your bike before having it serviced. We normally ask customers to do that. Car Dealers, Car Washes, Repair Garages all have signs posted "NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR CUSTOMER VALUABLES"
By the way we were never taken to small claims. Another mis-fact.
I welcome any suggestions or complaints. But I do require that there is some fact to them.
Thank you

One of the employees at West Coast just showed me your site. I can tell you we have never had a problem with the sales or service department. Pricing was always very fair and for the most part work was done ahead of schedule. Before using West Coast we had tried a few other dealers and did not receive as good service or employees who seemed to care. I would highly recommend West Coast Motorsports. I have been riding over 30 years so I have a good knowledge of bikes, dealers, good and bad service. I feel that they provide TOP Service.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I are long time customers of West Coast Motorsports. They have been very supporative of our club and it's riders, touring all brands (including that funny brand HD, just kidding . . .). I haven't heard of any member complaining aobut poor service, lost parts or uncaring attitude. Matter of fact it has been just the opposite.it seems like with some people if everything doesn't go perfect they beocme ungluded. Welcome to life - problems will happen with everything.

We have used West Coast Motorpsorts for nearly five years. I am in a club and I konw many of the other local members get their bikes serviced at West Caost as well as getting accessoires and stuff their. I have never heard anybody coplaint about poor service or rude treatment. Isn't it amazing how everyting happens to some people. They never realize maybe it is them. Look for the good not the bad!
ReplyDeleteWe think West Coast is Tops!
Mrs. & Mrs. JK
I have purchased 12 units and still counting from West Coast Motorsports within the last 9 months. Any warranty problems etc were resolved immediately. I have been very happy with all of their services and the concerned people and management. I continue to buy from them and can't belive the negative comments. Check closer probably very Negative People!
ReplyDeleteSU, Perris
The negative comments suprise me. We have dealt with WCMS for a long time and always felt we got top notch service. I orginally got started with WCMS's Service Deparment when Yamaha recommended them after I had problems with another large Yamaha Dealers Service Department. I would highly recommend West Coast Motorsports
ReplyDeleteJack& Lucy Hemet
Have never had a problem! Hell Ford just recalled a 1,000,000 cars and trucks, mistakes - do happen. I use to run a repair buisness and couldn't complete with West Coast Motorsports service and pricing.I had customers tell me they were great and my service and prices were to high. I heard bad stories about every dealer. I also learned that customers many time stretch the truth and overlook that they may have caused the problem. There is an old saying in the car business "Buyers are Liers" Probably applies here!
ReplyDeleteEd, Moreno Valley
West Coast Motorsports for Chritmas donated to my family (3 kids) all thre toys, my husband they gave tools for his job and me clothes. They also boght us beds, blanets, food and a refrigater. They gave us a tree and all the decoratons.

I am a single Mom with two boy 11 & 13 who race. West Coast has always gone out of there way to help me on repairs, bike set-up and payments. They have made it possible for my sons to race. Love Them!
ReplyDeleteSandra Brooks, Perris
Who ever wrote this negaative comment, most likely finds fault with everyting. All my friends and I use WCMS and I have never heard of anybody complainting. When I first started using them they found a short that two other dealers couldn't. Their service departemtn is great! Get a Life Steve.
ReplyDeleteMel H. Moreno Valley, CA
West Coast Sucks! Mary is a dumb ass!
ReplyDeleteThis shop is a joke I just pulled my 2007 450r from this shop because they couldn't make it run!!!!! It only took Callaway Motorsports 30 min to fix the problem (bad coil)! I wouldn't let West Coast fix my lawn mower!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIf West Coast is such a good dealership why are they laying off one forth of their staff! As a former employee I have personally seen the mishaps in our service dept. And I would not let any of the Service Techs touch my personal bikes. These positive posts where all added by current staff members to counter any negative publicity we have received, Steve you nailed our Dealership with your article,Great Job. Stay away from West Coast Watch them go Bankrupt.
ReplyDeleteCheck out the times for the positive posts some just minutes apart amazing and two at 4:00 in the morning wow tweeeeeekers! Some one can't sleep maybe Barry is guilt ridden? haha
ReplyDeleteThe whole industry is off 25% or more. Perris is down the most of any City in California because of the sub prime loans. Read the papers. I don't know of a dealership that has not layed off employees, some a lot more then 25%Get your facts straight. I am a vendor to West Coast Motorsports and have never had a problem with them and they pay their bills always on time! I notice a x-employee posted negative comments, I am sure West Coast did not lay off their top employees.West Caost is in the Top 5% of my dealers. They care and are doing an excellent job.
ReplyDeleteTH- Parts Unl.
To all the people writing in about the good things West Coast has done for them thats great but what does it have to do with the SERVICE DEPT? Anyone can change oil and tires but when it comes down to it they can't do the big repairs. It's not there fault they are in a small area surrounded by bigger shops that could afford great service techs. I my self had two big repairs done there and they messed up both, one they "forgot to put back in the antifreeze" and sent the bike home with me. This was there best Service Tech. There are plenty of bigger shops around that have qualified techs, why in the world risk your bike when it costs the same at the other shops! WC has a very young staff that is still learning go with experance. 74 Motosports, Temeccula MS, Chapperal, Callaway just to name a few.
ReplyDeleteYour atv gets left outside in the weather 24-7. They have no covering for them. Is that how you want your "baby" treated?
ReplyDeleteMike J.
Bigger is certainly not better- I also ride a 450 and have had the exact opposite experience where one of the dealers you named couldn't diagnose a problem and West Coast was able to. I have been very satisfied with there service and like being treated like a paying customer rather then a number like the "Big-Shop". I have been impressed with Mary, always able to answer my questions.
ReplyDeleteZeke - Moreno Valley
Maybe questions like what time do you open?, where are you located?, or maybe do you guys change tires!
ReplyDeleteDude took a quad tire there to get pluged they said "you can't plug a tire they have tubes" WOW

I have purchased many parts from you guys when I puchased my Polaris 500 to my rebuilding of my Polaris due to an accident. I have also purchased boots, helemt, jurseys and pants and many more parts. Thanks for all of the help! You guys are the best.
ReplyDeleteJohn H Perris,CA
These guys don't have a clue just call the service dept and ask a few technical questions about your bike and see what kind of answers you get! I did that and laughed! Then call any other shop with the same questions you will hear the diffrence right away!
ReplyDeleteJerry -MV
Hey Jerry I read your coment about the service department not being helpful. I had just the opposite experience on the phone, another "Big Box Dealer" blew me off but West Coast was very helpful, and saved me a trip in!
ReplyDeleteI have found most dealers won't even give any information over the phone. Jack Temecula,CA
hey Brett-
ReplyDeleteThanks for all your help, your honesty was apprecicated. I had been to two other dealers who I couldn't get a straight answer from. They were in to much of a hurry to make a quick sale and could care less about me or my questions. brett you took the time and ended up selling me a bike that was much less then what I though I wanted. I have ridden it already and its perfect.
Louis Anderson, Perris, CA
Its amazing that any one would support such a crap place like West Coast they are the laughing stock of the IE! Any ovh place you go talk with real riders and you will here about the mishaps of West Coast. If you trust these hacks to touch your bike you will regret it sooner or later! As far as their sales dept i have no experiance with them. But the parts dept and service dept have a bunch of kids with little or no knowledge of bikes. ANYONE WHO POSTS POSITVE FOR THIS TJ SHOP IS A JOKE THEMSELVES! Ask the service dept about vapor lock!!!! hahahaha
ReplyDeleteI have had great experiences with there service department. I know one of the mechanics was the Vance & Hines race mechanic so they certainly must know something.
ReplyDeleteTell us about a vabor lock Mr Know-It All! At leaset they are honest, some of the IE shops have been caught overcharging and not doing work that they charged for. Call the DMV! Better get all your details straight before you make such stupid comments.
I saw that comment posted by somebody who must borderline on being a idiot, referring to it has a TJ Shop. Wonder what that is?
ReplyDeleteI called them to ask what caused a vabor lock and this is what they said.
"When the gasoline overheats and boils inside the carb bowl or fuel pump of a hot engine it ceases to flow. This can cause the bike to stall or hard starting. It usually happens durning hot weather. Might be caused by hot engine, cooling system problems or try switching brand of gas" I am a mechanic and that is a Right On Answer! Maybe the other writer who referred to TJ was referring to himself "Top Jackass"!
Dave H, perris, CA
In a court of law the owner stated that Loc-tight is not meant to be used on a bike motor, scary huh? This guy is in charge, wonder why they have so many problems. Hey Berry check the manual!
ReplyDeletebetween my brother and I we have purchased 5 different bikes which all of them have been serviced by West Coast. We have never had any problems. Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteJZ perris,ca
To the above guy who wrote about the Service Tech who is an ex Vance and Hines race tech. What is this techs name? I got to hear this I know the Hines family personally and will ask Byron why one of his Race Techs left making 100k to go make 35k at West Coast! Which team did he work for Road Race, Drag? I will write back with what is said about this "guy".
ReplyDeleteTop Jackass is The Service Dept! They couldn't figure out why a 450R was stalling. Honda sent a tech out and figured out that West Coast Installed the wrong breather tube and was causing vapor lock and are now being sued!
ReplyDeleteWest Coast is great! You gotta feel sorry for those little boogers they are like the special ed class in grade school! Poor fn retards. "Can I fix your motorcycle? I am a real good mechanic!" Thats how they make you feel the shop is a joke and on their way out!

I am so glad someone turned me on to this site. I got a quote for a rhino from West Coast and almost bought it then a friend had me read these posts, man I am I glad I didn't buy from this place! From what I hear the service dept is real bad. Who in there right mind would let anyone touch there toy with a history like theirs. Plus I saved 3,000 bucks going to Callaway. After talking to a few local shops while shopping around I heard some very bad stories about West Coast they really are the laughing stock of the IE. Steer Clear of these guys why risk it.

We were very happy with our purchase of our Rhino at West Coast. Matter of fact they tricked it all out for us and so far we have been very pleased. I noticed that somebody else made a comment that they went to Callaway and saved $3,000 on their Rhino. We checked all around when we bought ours and Callway didn't even carry Rhino, they were not a Yamaha Dealer. West Coast was the cheapest.
ReplyDeleteJune Schroder, Riverside, CA
If West Coast tricked it out you will be rebuilding it within 6 months put that in stone.
ReplyDeleteArron
Dear Mr. Evans-
ReplyDeleteMy wife showed me this site as she was leaving comments about our positive experience with West Coat Motorsports and our Rhino purchase.
I am attorney and very aware of claims and how they are filed. Aftering checking court records I noted that done of these claims were found against West Coast Motorsports. So other words according to the court there were 4unjust claims filed in the past 36 months. Check with your wife she will tell you the number #1 Group that has claims filed against them is Auto Dealers, Repair Dealers and related industries to auto and repairs. I don't know how many repairs West Coast does a year but I would assume 300-500 that means they run less then 1/4 of 1% claims against them. The auto industry average is 4%. Remember they were not found at fault on any of these claims. I don't have a interest in West Coast but I do have a interest in making sure that the truth is spoken and clear.
Riverside,CA
Thank you for catching my dumb ass mistake. I purchased the rhino from John Burr for 12,999 out the door not Callaway . West Coast was 3 grand more. Sorry for the mistake

Jared you must suck as a racer if you have to take your bike to the dealership to set up your bike for a race! What kind of racing do you do? What is JStar Motors searched the web and nothing about bikes. Nice Barry you guys still suck!
ReplyDeleteAlso Jared you may want to go back and use some loc-tite they don't believe in it! Ask the owner.
ReplyDeleteMost off road race teams use very little Loctite. Loctite many years ago was very popular but there are now far more effective, quicker and easier ways to secure nuts and bolts. We all use wire ties, nylon nuts and or nylon lock washers. It makes it much easier to do a tear down, quick adjustment, or part replacement. I have been on three race teams in the past seven years and none of them hardly ever used Loctite. I know it is still used on engines and parts that are not used for competition or under heavy use or hard riding. I think a few motorcycle manufactures still speicfy it in their service manuals but they do not use it on there own offroad race vehicles.
ReplyDeleteJ. Thompson
LZX Racing,LTD
True that J but when a motor is assembled with out loc-tite or at least torqued bolts will back out. It happend to me! Thanks West Coast! $2000 rebuild with less than 3 hrs on the motor put together by West Coast.
ReplyDeleteAt the request of West Coast Motorsports we haveresearched your claim. First of all the judge in samll claims court sided with West Coast Motorsports. Secondly you admitted in court you had 8-12 hours (not 3) on the quad and had the brakes replaced after West Coast Motorsports worked on the unit. Thirdly EVEN the judge told you directly that the other dealer doing the work NOT West Coast Motorsports was at fault. You did not pay a dime for the repairs it was done under warranty and paid by HONDA. As the judge explained to you if the work had been done wrong HONDA would have debited West Coast Motorsports and paid the other dealer.
ReplyDeleteI strongly suggest that you consult with attorney before you continue to make false claims.

ReplyDeleteI got the bike today. It is everything you said it was. Buying a Vintage Motorcycle from somebody you don't know 2,000 miles away can turn into a very bad experience. I can't believe that the day Honda build this bike it looked any better. You and you company were great with all the photo's and background on the bike. It is perfect in every way. The way you packed it in the wooden crate for trucking came out perfect.Pleae let me know if you have any other Vintage Bikes that are in this perfect condition. I am a x-employee of West Coast Motorsports. I heard about this site and wnated to post a comment. Even though I was layed off, it was a very cool place to work. The only pressure I ever felt was to do a good job and treat our customers fairly. I worked at one other shop and their only concern was to get anything and everything from the customer. I don't know who posted the early comments but I never heard of any upset customers. I would recommend them.

I recently got layed off working here because of economy slow down. They always treated me right. I know their was one upset customer who kept making a big deal. They were wrong and lost in court. But because of this cuosmter West Coast started asking all their customers to post on this web site any feedback. That is why the last few months there is a lot of activity. West Coast is very fair and honest I know I worked their for almost three years full and part time!

Thanks for the prompt service-they were on it quick and itruns great. I noticed a lot of the shops have cut there hours with all the economy problems. Seems like most of them cut them to help themselves NOT there customers. Thanks West Coat Motorsports for keeping the service deaprtment open to accomodate cusotmers schedules.

been taking my bike their for over 5 years--never a problem, great customer service. I read the last two comments, based on there stupid comments (probably the same person) together they probably have an IQ that equals the number of cyclinder of their bike (1-6).
ReplyDeleteI'm sure with that type of thinking they wouldn't know good service nor did they probably every do preventive maintneance. Aren't we lucky this in this world we only have a few of these types of people-and most of them are in jail!

They always treated my wife and I great and gave us a big discount. I highly recommend them.
ReplyDeleteThey seemd to know alot more then some of the other dealers we have dealt with or the years. One big dealer in Riverside had our Rhino for a month and said nothing was wrong. We had the smae problem again so Yamaha recommended WC Motorsports. They figured out the problem in one day and covered under the warranty!

I was so happy to see West Coast has gone under. Barry I hope you lost your ass, you are truly a dick head. You have ripped people off years and have gotten what you deserve!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a nice Holiday!

DO NOT take your business to WCMS. They have been sued thirteen times, one of them was me (you can find a list on the riverside county court web site)!
ReplyDeleteThose guys at West Coast Motorsports are absolutely incompetent failures! They put the wrong oil filter in my dual sport motorcycle, then denied it outright. I had lots of evidence including the invoices for the repair, stating that they installed the wrong filter. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough, and I lost the case in court.
